Designing a product in a CAD environment can be an ideal option for complex projects which require multiple variables and components be considered. It also has the added bonus of allowing you to “see” what the finished part will look like.

Solidworks, CAD

We use Solidworks, a solid modeler program that utilizes parametric feature-based modeling. In other words, we create a solid object in the program, define the criteria to cut away material, and create the part in the virtual space. This method helps us determine the best way of fabricating the part while guaranteeing an accurate and stable final product.

Like any tool, just having the software does not mean it will guarantee the best result. We combine certified Solidworks training with real-life machining and fabricating experience which allows our technicians to best utilize the advantages of the software when working on your project. The result is a product the meets your expectations even before a single part is machined.

Unless established before project commencement, S.K. Grimes retains the rights to our designs, whether it be CAD or hand sketching. Design work is included in the cost of more complex products we create. Our standard procedure is to provide our clients with end product, not the design, process, or prints.

If required, we provide a Client-owned design service which provides CAD drawings and is billed per hour. Our CAD services range from creation of schematics, to enhancement of existing designs, to fabrication files for prototypes.
